Three Practical Buckets for Thinking About AI

When the conversation about AI gets too broad, I like to bring it back to the job in front of me.

Three useful categories are processing information, generating something new, and improving material that already exists.

A document becoming an outline belongs in the first category. A rough first draft belongs in the second. Revising a paragraph or changing its tone belongs in the third.

The categories make the evaluation more concrete. A summary should preserve important conditions. A new draft should not invent facts. A rewrite should keep the intended meaning.

Try one small example from your own work in each category and compare the results with the source material. Notice where the output is helpful and where it needs correction.

That is the part I find useful: judging a specific attempt at a specific job, rather than asking whether AI is simply good or bad.
